Job summary

City of Madera is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer III to perform the most complex inspections of residential and commercial properties, enforcing the City Municipal Code and California Health and Safety Code. This advanced journeylevel role leads lower staff and coordinates enforcement activities citywide.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years full-time work experience as a Code Enforcement Officer II.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license.
• Completion of PC 832 Laws of Arrest course.
• Certified Basic and Advanced Code Enforcement Certificates from recognized training programs.
• Some coursework in mediation, arbitration and administrative law.

Responsibilities

• Patrols and conducts field inspections of parcels of land, structures, vehicles and stored materials to ensure compliance with applicable City ordinances and state laws.
• Investigates citizen complaints and takes appropriate action; obtains statements from complainants; reinspects properties to ensure continued compliance.
• Maintains records and reports; composes/copies correspondence, reports, forms and documents; uses automated records systems.
• Responds to the most complex questions from the public and staff; provides information and resolves service issues; cooperates with neighborhood groups on beautification and cleanup.
• Provides technical and professional advice; prepares/coordinates reports and presentations for City Council and regulatory agencies; prepares new ordinances and revisions to existing ordinances.
• Schedules inspections in predetermined areas; responds to emergencies involving expedited code enforcement activities.
