Job summary

The City of Poway is seeking an experienced Senior Code Compliance Officer to lead complex field inspections, investigations, and enforcement of municipal, zoning, and health and safety codes. The role requires managing staff, coordinating cross-departmental compliance projects, preparing detailed reports, and guiding abatement proceedings, including hearings.

Five years of enforcement experience and supervisory exposure are preferred, with appropriate state licenses and certifications highly

Qualifications

• Five years of enforcing municipal, zoning, and/or building codes with a public agency or equivalent public contact.
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of code investigation methods, land-use regulations, and safety codes.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, and review the work of code compliance staff.
• Investigate violations of municipal, building, and zoning codes; pursue abatement and enforcement.
• Prepare notices, citations, and enforcement documents; coordinate with property owners.
• Conduct follow-up abatement procedures and present in nuisance abatement hearings.
• Coordinate weed abatement, defensible space, and other safety programs.
• Interact with residents, businesses, and partner agencies to resolve issues.
