Job summary

Office of Public Response in Santa Fe Springs, CA is seeking a Code Enforcement Supervisor to oversee inspectors and enforce state and city codes. Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with a public agency as a code enforcement officer, including municipal enforcement, inspection, and investigation.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory, senior, or lead capacity role.
  • Spanish-speaking bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Job description

Position Purpose

Under general supervision and direction, the Code Enforcement Supervisor supervises, coordinates, assigns, and reviews the enforcement activities of Code Enforcement Inspectors; performs the complex duties of a Code Enforcement Inspector, technical office and field work involving the inspection, investigation, and enforcement of State and City codes and ordinances relating to public nuisances, zoning, illegal garage conversions, overgrown vegetation, illegal business operations, illegal land uses, poor landscaping and property maintenance, unpermitted construction, outdoor storage, and assistance to the public. This position requires extensive fieldwork and may include weekend and evening work.

Work Schedule

Code Enforcement Supervisor works a 4/10 schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Incumbent may be required to attend pre-scheduled evening meetings or weekend events.

Supervision Received

Receives direct supervision from the Department manager or higher-level management staff.

Supervision Exercised

Provides direct supervision of Code Enforcement Inspectors.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in public administration, urban planning or a related field is highly desirable. The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience with a public agency as a code enforcement officer, including municipal enforcement, inspection, and investigation, and a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory, senior, or lead capacity role. Spanish-speaking bilingual skills are highly desirable.

License and Certificates

Possession of a valid POST certification in PC 832 Laws of Arrest is required. A valid Class “C” California Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record are required. Possession of a valid Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) certificate from the California Association of Code Enforcement Officers is required.
