Job summary

Peraton is hiring a COBOL Software Developer, Advisor to support and maintain the Medicare Fee For Service claims processing system. You will be a principal technical contributor on an Agile team, guiding design, coding, testing, and deployment of mainframe enhancements.

You will lead technical design, mentor developers, and provide accurate estimates while ensuring high-quality, well-documented solutions in a structured development environment. Public Trust clearance is required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: BS/BA degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 6 years; or HS diploma with 12 years.
Mainframe development experience in production or maintenance environment.
Advanced proficiency with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO and VSAM.
Knowledge of health care claims processing, particularly Medicare Fee For Service.
Agile/SCRUM experience in application lifecycle.
Strong communication skills and technical writing, including client-facing communication.
Experience with CMS programs or contracts.
DevOps/DevSecOps tools across plan/build/test/release/deploy.
SAFe experience and/or certification.
PublicTrust clearance ability.

Responsibilities

Design, code, unit test, and debug complex enhancements to the Medicare health claims system following coding standards.
Leads technical design sessions and drives complex software component implementation.
Applies deep technical expertise to deliver reliable maintenance and development solutions.
Mentor and technical resource to developers, supporting team growth.
Represent the team in client-facing technical discussions and provide estimates for tasks.
