This is an urgent opportunity—qualified candidates are encouraged to apply today by emailing their resume to the designated individual. We are looking for two Senior Inspectors to oversee bridge painting projects at two locations within Suffolk County, New York.
Assignment Duration:
- Approximately 2,760 hours (about 16 months) per position.
Work Location & Schedule:
- Primary work will be on-site, with reporting to a designated satellite office as directed.
- Standard hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Weeknight and/or weekend shifts may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect designs, materials, and contractor work to ensure compliance with construction contract requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans.
- Interpret containment, as-built, and MPT plans.
- Address complex site conditions related to MPT, containment, steel preparation, and coatings.
- Review contractor quality control reports for accuracy and consistency.
- Conduct pre-construction surveys of existing conditions.
- Review project plans, work plans, and weekend work plans.
- Provide field coverage for bridge painting activities as needed.
- Coordinate and review design submittals, including painting products, containments, and scaffolding.
- Participate in meetings with third-party contractors and stakeholders.
- Ensure incorporation of comments from design consultants and the railroad agency into approved project designs and shop drawings.
- Coordinate Roadway Worker Protection Training for all on-site contractor employees.
- Facilitate coordination between contractors and the railroad agency.
- Ensure project look-ahead schedules and work plans are properly integrated.
- Oversee site mobilization and preparation.
- Monitor containment installation, engineering controls, surface preparation methods, coating application, air sampling protocols, painting products, and
- Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in accordance with contract specifications.
- Document daily contractor activities and progress, highlighting inconsistencies, non-conformances, field tests, labor and equipment allocation, and critical activities in daily reports submitted to the railroad agency.
- Address non-conformances to prevent adverse impacts on project progress.
- Validate and monitor contractor invoices for payment in line with work progress and contract terms.
- Oversee final site clean-up, archiving of record documents and submittals, demobilization, and project closeout.
- Exercise Stop Work Authority if unsafe work practices are observed.
- Provide immediate updates to the transit agency and/or railroad agency personnel in urgent situations across project sites.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in bridge painting, construction, and project management. Experience in railroad operations is preferred.
- Possession of a valid Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Certified Coatings Inspector Level II or Bridge Coatings Inspector Level II certification, maintained throughout the task order.
- Proven experience managing on-site construction staff, particularly on railroad projects.
- Experience performing steel painting inspection services on structures such as bridges, water tanks, and towers.
- Familiarity with abrasive blasting abatement methods commonly used in similar projects.
- Knowledge of railroad engineering practices relevant to bridge painting and construction management.
- Working knowledge of New York State Department of Transportation Maintenance and Protection of Traffic standards and specifications.
- Ability to travel efficiently between various job sites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
- Maintenance of valid roadway worker protection training certification for the duration of the task order.
- Experience in reading and interpreting containment, as-built, and MPT plans.
