Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Coastal Engineer to join the Ports and Coastal Resilience Practice in Florida, with a preferred Melbourne location. You will lead design, oversee dredging and nourishment projects, and support permitting, bidding, and construction oversight across multiple Florida cities.

The role requires a Civil/Coastal/Ocean Engineering background, PE licensure in Florida or ability to obtain it, and 4–8 years of relevant coastal engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related field.
• Masters preferred in Coastal Engineering or related discipline.
• Florida PE license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable period after hire.
• 4–8 years of relevant engineering experience, including dredging or coastal projects.
• Experience preparing technical specifications, construction drawings, cost estimates, and bid documents.
• Experience supporting engineering design, construction administration, or construction oversight assignments.
• Knowledge of hydrographic surveys, dredge quantity calculations, sediment characterization, or geotechnical investigations.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local permitting for dredging and coastal construction.
• Ability to collaborate with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support dredging, beach nourishment, waterway restoration, and coastal projects.
• Prepare and review technical specs, drawings, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• Coordinate surveys, geotechnical investigations, and environmental studies.
• Perform analyses and evaluate design alternatives.
• Support permitting, bidding, construction administration, and oversight.
• Monitor compliance with specifications and permit conditions.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Assist with project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and field staff.
• Participate in site visits and field activities.
