Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks a manufacturing process and automation programmer to support the Columbia and Virginia Class programs. The role involves programming robotic and CNC equipment, optimizing paths, and ensuring current systems run as intended while scaling automation in a high-mix, low-volume shop.

The successful candidate will analyze drawings, develop setup instructions, and troubleshoot processes on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with CNC or robotic programming.
• GD&T proficiency and blueprints interpretation.
• Experience with metals such as Inconel and stainless steels.
• Ability to work on multiple shifts.
• Familiarity with FANUC or OSP controls and G-code is preferred.
• Experience with CAD/CAM tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and optimize programs for robotic or CNC-based equipment.
• Analyze drawings and data to determine manufacturing requirements.
• Create setup instructions, tooling specs, and work instructions.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and inspection issues.
• Assist with program verification, first-run prove-outs, and continuous improvement.
• Support custom tooling and fixture design for safe, efficient operations.
• Suggest traveler/router updates to improve processes.
