Job summary

Observable Space is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer/Setup Specialist in Los Angeles. You will program, set up, and operate complex CNC equipment to produce high-precision optical and aerospace components, collaborating with engineers to improve manufacturability.

The role supports rapid prototyping and low-volume production across aluminum, titanium, stainless, and specialty materials, with occasional after-hours work for time-sensitive projects.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience.
• Independently program, set up, and machine complex parts from CAD models.
• Proficiency with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
• Strong experience with CNC milling, including multi-axis machining.
• Reading and interpreting drawings, GD&T, and machining specs.

Responsibilities

• Program, set up, and operate multi-axis CNC milling and turning equipment.
• Interpret CAD models and GD&T to manufacture precision components.
• Develop CAM programs using Mastercam or Fusion 360.
• Design and fabricate custom fixtures and tooling for prototypes.
• Perform first-article and in-process inspections for dimensional accuracy.
• Improve processes to reduce cycle times and improve part quality.
