Job summary

Sumitomo Drive Technologies in Chesapeake, VA, is seeking an experienced Manual/CNC Machinist to set up and operate multi-axis machines, read blueprints, and produce precision parts to tight tolerances.

You will use micrometers, calipers, and gauges for inspections, perform first-piece checks, and collaborate with engineering and QA to improve processes and throughput. This full-time role includes strong benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Requires 12+ years operating manual, semi-automatic and CNC tools.
• At least 10 years CNC machining experience.
• 5 years in low volume/high mix production preferred.
• 2+ years on multi-pallet/multi-axis equipment desired.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate machine tools to meet tight tolerances.
• Read and interpret imperial and metric blueprints.
• Compute dimensions and tolerances from drawings.
• Test cut/dry run CNC programs before production.
• Follow SOPs and lean practices to meet throughput and quality.
• Inspect parts with gauges to ensure drawing adherence.
• Collaborate with supervisors, QA and maintenance to prevent issues.
• Train operators and participate in time studies.
