Sumitomo Drive Technologies USA in Chesapeake, VA is seeking an experienced CNC machinist to set up and run multi-axis machines, including lathes, mills, and pallet systems, to produce precision parts.

You will read blueprints, verify tolerances, and optimize setups while maintaining safety and 5S. Requires extensive CNC machining experience and ability to work with imperial and metric drawings.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 12 years of experience operating manual, semi-automatic, and CNC machines.
• At least 10 years CNC machining experience in fast-paced environments.
• 5 years in low volume – high mix production; 2+ years on multi-pallet/4+Axis setups a plus.
• Expert in reading complex drawings in imperial and metric; proficient in calculating tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools to perform precision machining with tight tolerances.
• Read & interpret blueprints in imperial and metric standards.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using geometry and part drawings.
• Test cut / dry run CNC programs prior to production; machine parts per setup docs.
• Inspect parts with micrometers, calipers, height/depth/bore gauges to ensure drawing compliance.
• Support 5S practices and continuous improvement in the machine shop.
