Job summary

Sumitomo Group is hiring for a CNC/Machine Shop position in Chesapeake, VA. The role covers setup and operation of multi-axis CNC machines and manual lathes/mills, with emphasis on precision, reading complex drawings, and tight tolerances.

We require extensive experience in CNC machining, low-volume/high-mix environments, and proficiency with metrology tools. Benefits and a strong safety culture are provided.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience operating manual, semi-automatic and CNC tools.
• At least 10 years in CNC machining.
• 5 years in low volume – high mix production.
• 2+ years on multi-pallet machines (desirable).
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers and gauge tooling.
• Ability to read complex drawings in imperial and metric.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate machine tools for precision work with tight tolerances.
• Read blueprints and interpret imperial/metric standards.
• Calculate dimensions using geometry and tolerances.
• Test cut and dry-run CNC programs prior to production.
• Follow SOPs and 5S to ensure quality and on-time production.
• Inspect parts with gauges to ensure drawing tolerances.
