Job summary

Wanner Engineering Inc. in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Machinist II to independently set up, operate, and optimize CNC equipment for quality and throughput. The role requires advanced machining knowledge, program edits, offsets, tooling selection, and problem solving across shifts.

You will interpret blueprints, perform in-process inspections, and maintain tool life and process stability, with a focus on safety and ISO/QMS adherence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years machining experience in a CNC manufacturing environment.
• Ability to independently set up and run CNC mills/lathe with minimal supervision.
• Ability to edit feeds/speeds and manage offsets to maintain print requirements.
• Strong blueprint reading skills; working knowledge of GD&T.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools and in-process inspection.
• Commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• CNC Setup & Machining Operations: complete setups, workholding, tooling, offsets, first-piece validation.
• Run CNC equipment per schedule while meeting quality and efficiency targets.
• Edit programs to correct issues and improve cycle time.
• Set and adjust tool offsets; manage tool life and changes.
• Verify revision level of prints and setup documentation before production.
• Communicate status and handoff details to shifts to ensure continuity.
• Quality & Documentation: interpret blueprints and GD&T to meet print requirements.
• Perform first article and in-process inspections with calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.
• Identify trends and take corrective actions to maintain capability.
• Complete production logs, counts, scrap reports, and QA forms.
• Escalate nonconforming conditions and support containment actions.
• Troubleshooting & Process Support: diagnose issues and implement corrective actions.
• Assist with continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
• Team Support & Leadership on Shift: guide operators and support cross-training.
