Job summary

United Launch Alliance in Decatur, AL seeks an experienced machinist to set up and operate large 3-5 axis CNC VTLs and gantry milling machines for precision aluminum ring forgings and stainless steel parts. You will load programs, measure parts, deburr, and perform routine maintenance.

The role requires 6+ years of machining, 3-5 axis experience, blueprint reading, and knowledge of speeds and feeds. Shifts include Sunday-Wednesday 4x10s with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• At minimum 6 years of relevant machining experience.
• 3 to 5 axis machining/turning experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of CNC programming.
• Demonstrated experience reading and utilizing blueprints.
• Experience with basic machine shop measuring tools.
• Knowledge of speeds and feeds for machine cutters.
• Ability to work shifts including Week Night schedule; overtime and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities

• Set-up and operation of large 3 to 5 axis CNC VTL and CNC Gantry Milling machines for precision parts.
• Set-up tooling fixtures, indicate large rings/plates, load CNC programs, inspect parts, deburr, wash operations.
• Validate CNC program configurations while maintaining quality requirements.
• Work to specified tolerances to meet blueprint specs for large rings/panels.
• Determine finishing steps and sequence operations for surfaces.
• Perform periodic maintenance on machinery to ensure reliability.
• Maintain schedule metrics related to maintenance and outages.
• Support shift schedule: Week Night 4 x 10s, 8pm-6:30am.
