Job summary

Venmo is seeking a Cloud/DevOps Engineer – Business Continuity to design, build, and operate the infrastructure ensuring resilience and rapid recovery from disruptions. You will mentor engineers, lead by example, and drive best practices across the SDLC within Venmo’s AWS-based environment.

You’ll work on disaster recovery automation, incident game days, and backup strategies, employing Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and DataDog to boost reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software development or related experience.
• Experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365 as part of a Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and/or SRE team.
• Extensive hands-on experience with designing, implementing, and supporting infrastructure (AWS experience preferred).
• Hands-on programming and scripting (Python, Java, Bash, Go).
• Experience with chaos engineering tools and frameworks (AWS Fault Injection Simulator, Gremlin, Chaos Monkey, Litmus).

Responsibilities

• Act as a hands-on contributor, while leading by example.
• Mentor junior engineers.
• Define and coordinate design, identify stakeholders, navigate risks and changes, and ensure timely project delivery.
• Toubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix problems, and implement preventive measures.
• Design, implement, and operate chaos engineering experiments to proactively identify weaknesses.
