Job summary

IBM Software in Austin seeks an infrastructure engineer to design, build, and evolve internal services powering the Confluent-based platform. You will work on cloud-native systems, contribute to Kubernetes operators, and improve reliability at scale.

You will collaborate across teams, own lifecycle aspects from availability to capacity planning, and operate in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation. Strong programming and Linux networking experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in Go, Java or Python.
• Deep understanding of systems internals and large-scale performance.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Automation and reliability practices—GitOps, Terraform, CI/CD, observability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve internal infrastructure services, including Kubernetes operators.
• Own systems to be secure, scalable, observable, and reliable using modern tooling.
• Collaborate with engineers to enable fast, safe deployment of services.
• Take lifecycle ownership: availability, performance, monitoring, incidents, capacity planning.
• Work at scale across many instances and regions with reliable operations.
• Influence architecture and operational strategy for cloud services.
