Job summary

Amazon in Seattle is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer to join the CloudFormation team, shaping infrastructure as code across AWS by designing and delivering scalable cloud solutions.

The ideal candidate will mentor other engineers, define architecture, drive end-to-end development, and lead initiatives in a fast-paced environment focused on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming in at least one language.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end: requirements gathering, designs, design reviews, implementations, code reviews, incremental feature launches, operations, mentoring, and driving continuous improvement.
• Solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
• Collaborate with team to invent, design and build software that is stable and performant.
• Proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them.
• Ensure code is understandable by others unfamiliar with the system.
• Limit the use of short-term workarounds and minimize incidental complexity.
• Create flexible software without over-engineering and reuse where possible.
• Be efficient with resource usage (hardware, DB, memory/CPU).
