Job summary

Smile Digital Health is seeking a seasoned Cloud Engineer to own build and release engineering, consolidate CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, and implement GitOps-based delivery across Azure services and Kubernetes. The role emphasizes automation, security, and scalable infrastructure.

You will automate backup, disaster recovery, cost optimization, and platform governance, while collaborating with development and operations teams to close automation gaps and improve reliability.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on cloud engineering, DevOps and/or platform engineering experience.
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Practical knowledge of Terraform, Helm, Azure DevOps pipelines, and GitOps delivery (Argo CD or Flux).
• Strong Terraform skills with modular design and state management.
• Expertise in Helm, Kubernetes, AKS, and Azure services (AKS, Key Vault, Storage, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with observability as code and cost optimization in Azure, plus disaster recovery.
• Hands-on with Kafka operations and production-grade automation tooling.
• Certifications in Terraform, Azure, CKAD/CKA assets are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own build and release engineering by reviewing repos and CI/CD, consolidating YAML into reusable templates with quality gates.
• Automate cross-functional tasks with scheduled, auditable automation for patching, rotation, scaling, and reporting.
• Implement GitOps-based continuous delivery with drift detection and rollback.
• Automate environments end to end across Azure services and applications.
• Automate backup, restore and failover with measured RTO/RPO and DR drills.
• Harden and upgrade Helm charts and manage Terraform modules and state boundaries.
• Run in-cluster services via Helm, ensure availability with proper probes, replicas, and autoscaling.
• Maintain Terraform configurations and automate guardrails and policy-as-code.
• Build agent images and dashboards as code; document automations for operations teams.
• Contribute to AI enablement in the platform team and identify automation gaps to close.
