Job summary

Multnomah County is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to lead the transition from on-premises databases to a modern cloud architecture. The role focuses on securing, optimizing, and modernizing data platforms using Azure, Snowflake, and BI tools such as Tableau Server, Power BI Server, and SSRS.

You will mentor staff and ensure backups, governance, and performance in both cloud and on-prem environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience will be considered.
• 5 years of experience in database administration (equivalency 9 years of qualifying training/experience).
• Knowledge of Azure cloud services (Azure SQL, Data Lake, Data Factory).
• Experience with BI data marts and data warehousing best practices.
• Experience with ETLs for reporting.
• Knowledge of database logging tools (Idera, RedGate, Splunk).
• Experience with BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, SSRS).
• Knowledge of on-premises SQL Server and cloud backups/recovery.
• Familiarity with AD/Azure Entra ID security concepts.

Responsibilities

• Manage SQL servers and databases daily with space planning and access controls.
• Lead cloud migration from on-premise to Azure and Snowflake.
• Design backup and recovery plans to ensure data resilience.
• Identify bottlenecks and optimize performance across databases.
• Mentor IT staff and share database tooling knowledge.
• Keep software up-to-date with security patches and updates.
• Collaborate with project teams on Snowflake BI migrations.
