Job summary

The Hartford seeks a Senior Cloud Database Engineer to design, build and operate SQL Server environments on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2 within a hybrid work model. You will leverage AI to analyze logs, incidents, and configuration drift, and to enable faster root-cause analysis.

Ideal candidates have 7–12 years in SQL Server with 3+ years on cloud platforms (AWS preferred), plus PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform experience. Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship is required.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years experience with SQL Server Administration, Development or Architecture.
• 3+ years on cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), AWS preferred.
• 6+ years experience with Microsoft SQL Server, AGs and Failover Clusters.
• 5+ years development/automation using PowerShell and WinRM.
• 2+ years Ansible to configure Windows via WinRM (Chef/Puppet OK).
• 2+ years Terraform experience.
• AWS certifications are highly recommended.
• Experience with T-SQL, .Net, PowerShell, Python, Go.
• Strong backup/recovery, security, licensing, monitoring, auditing, performance troubleshooting.
• Excellent communication, collaboration; Agile experience a plus.
• Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL is a plus.

Responsibilities

• The Senior Cloud Database Engineer will work with database specialists to enhance AWS-based SQL Server products on EC2.
• Desirable work on Linux and other databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, NoSQL.
• Use AI tools to boost productivity while owning decisions.
• Follow fault tolerance, separation of duties, observability, and operator friendliness.
• Leverage AI to improve operational effectiveness: logs, metrics, incidents, drift, root-cause analysis.
• Design, build, and operate SQL Server on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2.
