Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer to design, build, and operate SQL Server on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2. The role emphasizes cloud automation, AI-assisted productivity, and cross-platform familiarity.

Ideal candidates will have 7–12 years of SQL Server experience, 3+ years on AWS/Azure, and strong PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform skills. Hybrid work with an in-office schedule is required.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years experience with SQL Server Administration, Development or Architecture.
• 3+ years cloud experience on AWS or Azure, with preference on AWS.
• 6+ years of Microsoft SQL Server, Availability Groups and Failover Clusters.
• 5+ years development/automation using PowerShell and WinRM.
• 2+ years Ansible to configure Windows systems (Chef/Puppet also considered).
• 2+ years Terraform.
• AWS certifications are highly recommended for this position.
• Familiarity with TSQL, .Net, PowerShell, Python, GO.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate SQL Server on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2.
• Enhance database product portfolio on AWS with SQL Server focus.
• Work with other platforms such as Linux and PostgreSQL, Oracle, NoSQL as optional.
• Use AI tools to improve productivity while owning decisions.
• Ensure fault-tolerant design, separation of duties, observability, operator-friendly processes.
