Job summary

The Hartford in the United States is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer to advance our SQL Server on Windows deployments on AWS EC2. You will work with database specialists to expand our AWS-based database portfolio, using PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform for automation in a hybrid work setting.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of SQL Server experience, strong automation skills, and familiarity with Azure/AWS, Oracle or PostgreSQL as optional enhancements.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years of experience with SQL Server Administration, Development or Architecture.
• 3+ years on cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), with emphasis on AWS.
• Experience using PowerShell for automation and WinRM remoting.
• 2+ years using Ansible to configure Windows systems (Chef/Puppet also acceptable).
• Strong backup, security, performance and monitoring knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate SQL Server on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2.
• Collaborate with database product specialists to enhance AWS-based DB portfolios.
• Automate deployments and configurations using PowerShell, Ansible and Terraform.
• Analyze logs, metrics, incidents, and drift to support rapid root-cause analysis.
• Follow fault-tolerant, observable, and operator-friendly engineering practices.
