Job summary

SMX is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Developer to act as the core database authority for the BI suite, managing health, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data stores (Redshift, PostgreSQL/Aurora) in a Washington, DC on-site role.

You will lead data architecture modernizations, optimize high-volume analytical queries for BI tools, and enforce security posture for executive federal decision-makers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in database development and administration.
• 4+ years with cloud DB platforms (AWS preferred).
• Advanced expertise in Amazon Redshift and PostgreSQL/Aurora admin.
• Experience with Apache Airflow and modern orchestration tools.
• SQL mastery with query tuning and schema optimization.
• Scripting in Python or Bash for automation.
• Knowledge of cloud DB security and HA/DR practices.
• Active Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and provisioning of cloud analytics stores (Redshift, Aurora).
• Tune performance, indexing/partitioning, and optimize BI query performance.
• Oversee migration/replication of legacy data to cloud repositories (DMS).
• Develop automation for schema deployments and maintenance (IaC).
• Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts to enforce modeling best practices.
