Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking an experienced infrastructure engineer to design, build, and operate OpenAI's API infrastructure across CSP platforms.

You will help create a scalable cloud deployment platform, plan capacity, and improve caching and performance while ensuring safe, repeatable releases. You will work closely with inference, API, and security teams to ensure reliable production services, with strong emphasis on observability, automation, and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience leading cloud infrastructure or distributed systems projects from architecture through launch and ownership.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals with focus on performance and reliability.
• Hands-on experience building and operating services on a major CSP, including deployment systems, networking, storage, and cloud-native integrations.
• Strong production coding and debugging skills and ability to navigate unfamiliar services and infrastructure.
• Experience with capacity planning, performance optimization, or operational tooling at scale.
• Clear technical communication and cross-team collaboration to deliver complex projects.
• Curiosity about model serving and AI infrastructure; deployment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and build cloud infrastructure and distributed services that connect API requests, routing, and model-serving deployments.
• Stand up and operate model-serving environments in partnership with inference engineers.
• Plan and manage cloud capacity, improve utilization, caching, request performance, and cost efficiency.
• Create repeatable build, release, and validation processes to catch regressions before launch.
• Develop reusable infrastructure abstractions for CSP-agnostic operation.
• Partner with internal teams and CSP engineers to deploy on new platforms and resolve issues.
• Own production health through observability, incident diagnosis, and automation.
