Job summary

Netsmart seeks a Lead Software Architect to guide cloud-enabled modernization for CareDimensions. You will work hands-on with engineering and partner across product, DevOps, cloud, and security to define scalable, AI-aware architectures in an AWS environment.

You will translate client needs into practical architectural decisions, enhancing reliability, performance, and maintainability while addressing legacy systems and governance in a healthcare context.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with roles such as Software Architect, Lead Engineer, Technical Lead, Senior Architect, or similar.
• Hands‑on experience with enterprise‑scale application development and modernization.
• Experience working with legacy applications and evolving them toward scalable, cloud-enabled architecture.
• Strong understanding of AWS, cloud-native patterns, distributed systems, APIs, microservices or modular architecture, CI/CD, observability, and DevOps practices.
• Credibility with engineers by connecting architecture direction to real development and operational realities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence in a matrixed environment.
• Interest in AI, ML, automation, or data-driven capabilities with practical production considerations.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Must be onsite in Overland Park, KS.
• Healthcare tech experience and regulatory domains are a plus.
• Experience modernizing complex enterprise apps in AWS and with Kubernetes/infra‑as‑code.

Responsibilities

• Lead application architecture guidance for CareDimensions products and engineering teams.
• Assess current-state systems and define practical modernization paths for scalability and cloud readiness.
• Collaborate with engineering on architecture decisions, reviews, prototypes, and reference implementations.
• Improve CI/CD, deployment patterns, monitoring, observability, reliability, and operational support with DevOps and cloud partners.
• Guide architecture across AWS, distributed systems, APIs, data flows, and secure cloud-enabled design.
• Modernize legacy components through modular design, APIs, and domain-driven patterns while reducing technical debt.
• Identify AI, automation, or data-driven opportunities to enhance product value and efficiency.
• Produce architecture documentation, decision logs, diagrams, and reusable patterns.
• Communicate tradeoffs clearly to engineering, product, business, and executives.
• Cross-functionally align architecture with business priorities and client needs.
