A Day in the Life
At Medtronic, the Senior Clinical Specialist supports the Neuromodulation Pain, Target Drug Delivery, and Interventional Therapies in the areas of surgical coverage, follow-up support, troubleshooting, customer service, and education. This role involves basic market development activities depending on the needs of the assigned territory and district.
This is a field-based role.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Representing Medtronic as a device specialist during surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and products are available, providing technical support, device selection, and performing programming and testing of all device systems.
- Managing patients through all phases of the clinical process and educating them on the features and benefits of Medtronic products.
- Providing clinical support in surgeries, re-programmings, troubleshooting, and follow-ups in hospitals and clinics.
- Educating and training physicians, hospital personnel, and office staff on products and therapies through one-on-one sessions, formal in-services, education programs, seminars, and outside symposia.
- Responding promptly and professionally to device-related inquiries from customers and patients.
- Being flexible with schedule, working outside normal hours, including weekends and after-hours, as needed.
- Adhering to company policies, reporting events, and documenting using Medtronic technology tools.
- Managing inventory for case coverage, including transactions when products are used, sold, or transferred, maintaining cycle count accuracy, and avoiding the use of expired or on-hold products.
- Contributing to quarterly goals at district, regional, and national levels by partnering with colleagues and communicating effectively with leadership.
- Maintaining knowledge of competitive products.
- Visiting accounts regularly to build and maintain relationships with office staff and healthcare providers.
- Placing orders with customer service for pending purchase orders and product replacements.
- Working with materials management to collect POs for cases within the territory/district.
- Understanding all quality policies applicable to the role.
- Assisting management and sales training in onboarding new employees.
- Utilizing Excel, mobile phones, iPads, laptops, and tablets effectively.
- Managing business expenses and budgets efficiently.
- Functioning as a clinical leader with autonomy and clinical expertise.
- Serving as a key contact for complex cases and troubleshooting.
- Participating in territory business planning and supporting sales objectives.
- Acting as a field trainer and mentoring colleagues.
- Completing new hire therapy training and corporate compliance training.
- Traveling to cover district cases as needed.

Qualifications - Minimum Requirements
To be considered, ensure your profile reflects:
- A High School Diploma or GED with at least 8 years of clinical or medical sales experience; or
- An Associate Degree with at least 6 years of clinical or medical sales experience; or
- A Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of clinical or medical sales experience.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field
- Master’s degree
- Registered nurse or healthcare professional with sterile environment experience
- Experience with implantable neurological products and patient care
- Experience servicing medical personnel on product use
- Experience with medical devices or pharmaceuticals, and clinical experience in neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, OR, pain management, or home health
- Understanding of reimbursement and healthcare environment
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure
Other Job Requirements
- Function using healthcare universal precautions
- Primary resource for clinical events, with flexibility for weekends, evenings, nights, and overnight travel
- Ability to work independently outside of clinical events
- Attend national and district meetings and training
- Wear protective lead aprons for extended periods in OR
- Lift up to 40 lbs
- Stand, sit, walk for 8+ hours daily
- Bend, stoop, squat, and balance frequently
- Specific vision abilities required
Must have a valid driver’s license, active vehicle insurance, and be able to drive approximately 50% of the time within the territory, including overnight travel.
