Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a detail-oriented professional to evaluate inmate records and determine eligibility for assignments, custody changes, and programs.

You will manage classification for about 250 inmates, conduct progress reviews, interview inmates, provide counseling on adjustment, and respond to information requests. Four weeks of SCDC Basic Training is required after hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for related experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, and programs.
• Coordinate and implement an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conduct periodic reviews and evaluate inmate progress.
• Interview inmates, discuss and record progress on a periodic basis.
• Counsel inmates regarding general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Respond to inquiries about inmates from departmental officials and other agencies both orally and in writing.
• Operate the computer to ascertain information on inmates' social, criminal, educational and family histories.
• Must complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
