Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a position responsible for evaluating inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, job placements and treatment programs. You will coordinate a classification system for a caseload of about 250 inmates and conduct regular progress reviews.

You will interview inmates, document progress, and provide counseling related to institutional adjustment while utilizing the SCDC computer to gather pertinent inmate histories.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for related experience.
• SCDC requires a bachelor's degree.
• Associate's degree plus one year related experience acceptable.
• High school diploma plus two years related administrative/correctional experience.
• Complete SCDC Basic Training—four weeks after hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, job assignment and treatment programs.
• Coordinates and implements an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conducts periodic reviews and evaluates inmates progress.
• Interviews inmates.
• Discusses/records progress on a periodic basis.
• Counsels inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Responds to inquiries from departmental officials and other agencies regarding inmate information.
• Operates the SCDC computer to ascertain information on inmates' social, criminal, educational, and family histories.
