Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified professional to evaluate inmate records, determine eligibility for assignments, and coordinate an equitable classification system for a caseload of about 250 inmates. Responsibilities include conducting progress reviews, interviewing inmates, counseling on institutional adjustment, and responding to inquiries.

The role requires completing four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and meeting the State's minimum

Qualifications

• State requirements include a high school diploma with related experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for related experience.
• SCDC minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree; or an associate’s degree with 1 year of admin/correctional experience; or a high school diploma with 2 years admin/correctional experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, job assignment and treatment programs.
• Coordinates and implements an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conducts periodic reviews and evaluates inmates progress.
• Interviews inmates.
• Discusses/records progress on a periodic basis.
• Counsels with inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Responds to inquiries for information on inmates by departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operates the SCDC computer to ascertain information pertaining to inmates social, criminal, educational, and family histories.
