Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking staff to evaluate inmate records, classify custody, and oversee progress for a caseload of about 250 inmates. Qualifications

• A high school diploma and related experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
• Options listed: bachelor’s degree; associate’s degree with 1 year admin/correctional experience; high school diploma with 2 years admin/correctional experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, job assignment and treatment programs.
• Coordinates and implements an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conducts periodic reviews and evaluates inmates progress.
• Interviews inmates.
• Discusses/records progress on a periodic basis.
• Counsels with inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Responds orally and/or through written correspondence to inquiries for information on inmates by departmental officials and other agencies.
• Operates the SCDC computer to ascertain information pertaining to inmates social, criminal, educational, and family histories.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Associate's degree + 1 year experience

High school diploma + 2 years experience
