Job Description

AXIS is seeking a Senior Claims Specialist - Excess Claims to join our North America Claims team, reporting to the Claims Manager. The role involves reviewing excess casualty claims to assess the nature of loss, coverage, and scope, and making recommendations on settlement or disposition of claims.

The key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing excess casualty claims to determine loss nature, coverage, and scope, guiding strategic decisions
• Timely evaluation, reserving, and disposition of claims, with thorough documentation
• Developing relationships with internal and external partners, acting as the primary contact for assigned claims
• Escalating coverage issues and recommending outside counsel when necessary
• Managing costs, including legal and litigation expenses
• Communicating extensively with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, underwriters, insureds, and auditors
• Investigating potentially fraudulent claims and taking appropriate actions
• Making settlement or disposition recommendations
• Identifying opportunities for contribution, subrogation, and risk transfer
• Preparing reports for senior management
• Traveling for mediations or settlement conferences as required
• Performing other duties as assigned

Key Skills & Abilities

Candidates should have:

• 7-10+ years of claims experience, including 3-5 years in general liability claims adjusting; excess casualty experience is a plus
• Bachelor’s Degree required; JD is a plus
• Experience handling New York Labor Law, Product Liability, and complex litigation claims
• Proficiency in analyzing coverage issues, drafting correspondence, and responding to tenders
• Ability to influence and collaborate across organizational levels
• Strong analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills
• Knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes
• Technical expertise in complex coverage analysis, general liability, auto, and garage coverage
• Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills
• Supervisory experience and familiarity with KPIs, data, and metrics is a plus
• Valid licenses as required by state; willingness to travel
