Job Description

AXIS seeks a Senior Claims Specialist - Excess Claims to join our North America Claims team, reporting to the Claims Manager. This role involves reviewing excess casualty claims, assessing the nature of loss, coverage, and scope, and making settlement recommendations.

The key duties include:

• Reviewing claims to determine loss nature, coverage, and scope, guiding settlement strategies
• Evaluating, reserving, and disposing of claims promptly and documenting the process thoroughly
• Building relationships with internal and external partners as the primary claims contact
• Escalating coverage issues and recommending outside counsel when necessary
• Managing costs related to counsel and litigation
• Communicating extensively with senior management, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, underwriters, insureds, and auditors
• Investigating potentially fraudulent claims and taking appropriate actions
• Recommending claim dispositions and exploring subrogation and risk transfer opportunities
• Preparing reports for senior management and attending mediations or settlement conferences as needed

Key Skills & Abilities

Candidates should have 7-10+ years of claims experience, including 3-5 years in general liability claims adjusting. Experience with excess casualty claims is a plus. Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s Degree; JD is advantageous
• Experience handling complex litigation, New York Labor Law, and product liability claims
• Proficiency in analyzing coverage issues and drafting correspondence
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
• Knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes
• Technical expertise in complex coverage analysis, general liability, auto, and garage coverage
• Licenses as required by state, with willingness to travel for mediations, court proceedings, and meetings
