Job summary

Richmond National in Glen Allen, VA, is seeking a Sr. Claims Examiner to join a team of experienced professionals handling complex commercial casualty claims.

The role emphasizes investigation, evaluation, and settlement with strong letter writing and analytical skills. The responsibilities include reviewing coverage and liability, interviewing claimants and witnesses, coordinating with outside vendors, and negotiating settlements while maintaining meticulous records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in commercial casualty claims adjusting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including letter writing ability.
• Strong knowledge of commercial liability insurance policies, coverage analysis, and claims handling procedures.
• Experience with GL, CGL, Construction Defect, Premises Liability, Products Liability, or Bodily Injury claims.
• Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze coverage, liability, and damages for complex casualty claims.
• Write both coverage and liability position letters.
• Conduct interviews with claimants, witnesses, and other parties involved in the claim.
• Hire and manage outside vendors such as independent adjusters, defense counsel, and other experts as needed.
• Prepare detailed claim reports as needed for upper management.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys.
• Maintain accurate notes, records and files.
