Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group is seeking an experienced Claims Coverage Counsel or Claims Coverage Administrator to join our Corporate Claim Legal Team in Buffalo, NY. This hybrid role focuses on insurance coverage analysis, complex disputes, and risk transfer strategies.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in insurance coverage or as a practicing attorney, with a JD preferred and license in good standing. Salary ranges from $100,000 to $145,000 with equity and full benefits.

Qualifications

• JD preferred with active license in good standing.
• Minimum 5 years in insurance coverage or attorney practice.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Experience with construction and labor law coverage issues.
• Ability to train and guide staff across levels.

Responsibilities

• Prepares coverage opinions and coverage position letters for claims with complex issues.
• Assists claims professionals in evaluating risk transfer opportunities and tender strategies.
• Directs outside counsel on litigation strategy and manages coverage litigation plan.
• Provides legal support to underwriting, product development, and regulatory programs.
• Trains claims staff on policy interpretation, investigations, and compliance.
