Job Summary

The Sr. Civil Rights Specialist serves as a key front-end operational leader within the Office of Civil Rights, responsible for coordinating the University's initial response to reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation under FIU 105, FIU 106, Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, the ADA, and related laws.

This role supports prompt, fair, and trauma-informed responses to individuals engaged in civil rights processes and ensures a consistent and timely intake, assessment, and case management experience for all parties, whether matters proceed through formal resolution, alternative resolution, or supportive measures only.

  • Conducts and coordinates timely intake and initial assessment meetings with students, faculty, employees, and the University community to understand reported concerns, explain applicable policies and procedures, communicate rights and options, and identify appropriate next steps, including supportive measures, formal complaint processes, alternate resolution, and external resources.
  • Manages and documents ongoing supportive measures of students, faculty, and staff, with or without the filing of a formal complaint, ensuring consistency, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with confidentiality and FERPA requirements.
  • Assists with preliminary fact‑finding and regulatory assessment by gathering initial information, identifying relevant allegations, and supporting leadership in determining whether reported conduct may implicate FIU 105 and/or FIU 106, including the appropriate pathway for response, investigation, alternate resolution, or supportive measures.
  • Serves as a central coordination point, collaborating with campus partners to facilitate timely access to services and support resources, and to ensure continuity of care and response.
  • Provides administrative and logistical support to initial assessment and triage meetings, including preparation of materials, documentation of decisions, tracking of follow‑up actions, and maintenance of intake and case records in the University's case management system.
  • Supports and participates in training, education, and efforts related to civil rights compliance, reporting options, and supportive resources for the University community.
  • Identifies trends, recurring issues, and potential systemic concerns emerging at the intake stage and elevates those observations to leadership for review, prevention, or corrective action.
