Job summary

Hudbay in Tucson, AZ seeks an Area Lead – Civil & Geotechnical Engineering to head tailings facilities, civil, geotechnical, and earthworks design. You will provide technical leadership, ensure cross‑discipline design integration, and manage engineers, consultants and contractors through study, construction and commissioning.

As Owner’s technical representative for tailings and civil/geotechnical matters, you will ensure designs are safe, constructible and cost‑effective, mentor staff, support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in mining, industrial, infrastructure, or major capital projects.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and contractors.
• Tailings facility design, site civil design, earthworks and grading.
• Geotechnical investigations, slope stability, foundations.

Responsibilities

• Lead tailings facilities engineering activities and associated civil/geotechnical design.
• Coordinate interfaces across process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and mining disciplines.
• Review contractor deliverables for quality, schedule, and budget compliance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff and consultants.
• Support project execution plans, risk reviews, and design reviews.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology/geotechnical engineering

10+ years of mining/industrial/major capital projects experience

Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams

Experience managing engineering consultants and contractors

Tailings facility design

Site civil design

Earthworks and grading

Geotechnical investigations
