Job summary

Tucker Paving, Inc. in Winter Haven, FL seeks a Senior Estimator to lead civil site cost estimation, review project scope, and prepare competitive bid proposals.

You will conduct quantity takeoffs, evaluate subcontractor pricing, assess risks, and guide Estimators and JR Estimators to ensure timely, accurate bids. The role collaborates with project teams, managers, and clients to develop bid strategies and cost-saving measures, while ensuring high-quality bid submissions for Earthworks,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience in construction estimating, preferably in heavy civil construction, earthwork, roadway, drainage, and utilities; senior estimator role includes mentoring estimators and junior estimators.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, civil site development; ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specs, and project docs.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, bid preparation, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and proposal development.
• Experience with estimating software B2W Estimate, Agtek Gradework, Planswift and Office Suite.
• Ability to manage, mentor, and review work of Estimators and Junior Estimators.
• Strong problem-solving skills to evaluate costs, risks, and project requirements.
• Excellent communication with project teams, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership.
• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in quantities, pricing, scope, and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project scope by reviewing blueprints, specs, and docs to understand full scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthworks, roadways, drainage, and utilities using estimating software.
• Solicit and evaluate bids; collect quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop bid strategies and cost-saving measures.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive cost estimates and bid proposals.
• Identify and assess risks like weather, material shortages, or site conditions.
• Attend kickoff, site visits, and pre-bid meetings.
• Input takeoffs into B2W to create pay items and adjust labor/quantities.
• Review subcontractor and vendor pricing for scope coverage and accuracy.
• Adjust indirect costs, overhead and profit.
• Print and review proposals, soil reports, RFIs with management.
• Schedule and conduct bid reviews with management and estimating team.
• Finalize bids and file in project folders.
• Follow up with customers within 48 hours after bid submission.
