Job summary

New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to support civil engineering projects under the Base Civil Engineer. Responsibilities include field testing, site inspections, data collection, CAD/GIS support, and contract documentation.

Requirements include an associate degree in engineering science or related, possible bachelor’s path, 18+ with a NY driver's license, and ability to obtain required clearances. Travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time civil engineering experience or equivalent.
• Two years of cartography/CAD/GIS related study or work experience.
• Must be 18+ with high school diploma or GED.
• Valid NY driver’s license; military license may be required.
• Background check and security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform field tests of materials and construction, including compaction and air content tests.
• Visually inspect projects for compliance with specifications and standards.
• Compute material quantities and assist in contract payment calculations.
• Provide CAD and GIS support for field investigations and mapping.
• Prepare draft narratives and graphics for contract specifications.
• Assist in preparing alternate project plans and assess proposals.
• Oversee records from construction start to completion; may supervise staff.
