Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation seeks an Assistant Engineer (Civil) or Engineer Trainee to provide engineering and technical support for construction projects within the Bureau of Maintenance and Technical Services.

Responsibilities include engineering analysis, design, project management from conception to completion, AutoCAD drafting, site visits, and oversight of construction activities for water systems, roads, trails, and shoreline stabilization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, OR passing the FE exam with one year of full-time engineering experience
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and engineering software for design and calculations
• Valid driver's license and ability to negotiate difficult terrain and work in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and conduct field investigations
• Experience in design and construction of parks, roads, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, or recreational facilities preferred
