Job summary

New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service seeks a Senior Engineering Technician to support civil engineering tasks for the National Guard. Under the Base Civil Engineer, you will inspect construction, assist in field surveys, manage survey parties, and prepare maps and plans.

Requires CAD/GIS experience and proficiency in Word/Excel, with at least three years in civil engineering. Overtime and travel may be required; a NY driver’s license is needed.

Qualifications

• Three years of full time satisfactory experience in field or office civil engineering work with substitutions allowed as described.
• AND Two years technical experience in automated cartography or related CAD/GIS coursework.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform field tests of materials and construction, such as compaction and air content tests.
• Visually inspect projects for compliance with specifications and standards.
• Compute quantities of materials and determine contract payments.
• Provide CAD and GIS support for field investigations and mapping.
• Prepare inspection reports and project records from start to finish.
• Assist in drafting contract plans and alternative project evaluations.
• Perform supervisory duties as needed and travel to other facilities for training.
