Job summary

Illinois Department of Transportation seeks a Studies & Plans Engineer (Civil Engineer VI) in Peoria. You will direct the studies, design, geometric, hydraulic, and environmental analyses and prepare contract documents for highway improvements according to standards.

The role requires licensure in Illinois or as a Structural Engineer, at least six years of civil engineering experience, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois OR current licensure as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Six years of experience in civil engineering.
• Knowledge of design standards and specifications.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and experience supervising personnel.

Responsibilities

• Synthesizes engineering, sociological, and environmental factors that influence transportation design.
• Directs reviews of design applications by consultants to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Directs timely completion of plans and specifications for contract award.
• Directs, motivates, and supervises personnel to accomplish the Studies and Plans work programs.
• Provides administrative support on manpower, equipment, and budgets to ensure efficient operations.
• Complies with safety rules and treats all employees fairly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
