Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks a Project Coordination and Implementation Section Chief (Civil Engineer VII) to lead study development, coordinate across districts, and advance highway projects from planning through letting.

The role requires a PE/IL SE licensure and at least seven years of civil engineering experience, with strong leadership and communication skills in a hybrid office setting in Springfield.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois or a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Seven years of experience in civil engineering.
• Strong oral and written communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, coordinates, and controls all activities required to advance highway projects to the letting stage.
• Directs the development of the official state estimate for all projects proposed for letting.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and controls procedures to ensure federal cost participation.
• Ensures conformance to state and federal laws, policies, and procedures.
• Organizes and staffs the section, including training and development of staff.
• Coordinates with district offices for Small Business Initiatives or Project Labor Agreements.
• Provides budgetary and personnel administration for the section.
• Ensures project studies resolve engineering and environmental aspects and approves reports.
• Assists districts with special problems in development of project studies.
• Performs duties in compliance with safety rules and as assigned.
