Job summary

Gresham Smith is seeking a highly experienced Civil Engineer to lead civil design efforts in the Atlanta area. The role includes serving as Engineer of Record, guiding teams from concept to construction, and ensuring compliance with local codes and standards.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of land/site design leadership, a P.E. license, and strong skills in Civil 3D and MS Office. This on-site role offers growth, mentorship, and a collaborative, people-first culture in Midtown Atlanta.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (required).
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant civil engineering experience focused on land/site design and project leadership.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the capability to act as Engineer of Record.
• Proven experience in design leadership and team management.
• Expertise with local codes and permitting processes within the Atlanta metropolitan area.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
• Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR), responsible for the overall engineering integrity, compliance, and approval of civil design projects.
• Provide design leadership, guiding engineering teams from concept through construction documents and administration.
• Develop innovative, sustainable solutions to complex civil engineering challenges specific to the Atlanta area.
• Direct project management responsibilities, including schedules, budgets, client communication, and resource coordination.
• Apply deep knowledge of local Metro Atlanta building codes, permitting requirements, and regional standards to ensure project compliance.
• Use Civil 3D proficiently to oversee and review detailed engineering designs and production workflows.
• Coordinate closely with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and internal teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
• Conduct thorough reviews of plans, reports, and specifications to maintain high-quality standards.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation and quality control processes.
