Job summary

Suffolk is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer III to lead complex capital improvement projects, oversee design and construction, and coordinate with multiple agencies. The role requires a PE license, a BS in Civil Engineering, and 6+ years of project management experience in public works.

You will manage contracts, prepare bid documents, conduct site inspections, and assist with budgeting, grant activities, and policy development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field with 6+ years in project management for design/construction of engineering projects.
• Valid driver's license and Virginia Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
• Stormwater Plan Reviewer certification (DEQ) preferred; related certifications may be listed.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex capital improvement projects including streets, drainage, utilities, and facilities.
• Administer contracts, prepare bid documents, and oversee design reviews and inspections.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, developers, and agencies; supervise inspection staff as needed.
• Assist in grant writing, budgeting, and development of department policies and SOPs.
