A leading civil engineering firm based in Southern California is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to support the design and delivery of construction projects. This position will take a lead role in civil/site design, project coordination, permitting, and construction support from initial concept through project completion.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience with land development and building-related civil engineering, including site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and permitting. Responsibilities
- Prepare and review site development plans, grading plans, drainage designs, utility plans, erosion control plans, and construction documents.
- Perform engineering calculations related to grading, stormwater, drainage, utilities, and site infrastructure.
- Manage projects from initial planning and design through permitting, bidding, and construction.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, surveyors, contractors, developers, and other project stakeholders.
- Work directly with municipalities and regulatory agencies throughout entitlement, plan review, and permitting processes.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and cost estimates for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide construction‑phase engineering support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, resolving field issues, and supporting design modifications.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and engineering standards.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
- Support quality control and quality assurance reviews of engineering plans and calculations.
- Participate in client meetings and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, contractors, and other project partners.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 4+ years of progressive civil engineering experience preferred.
- Strong experience supporting building construction, site development, or land development projects.
- Demonstrated experience with grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and site infrastructure.
- Experience preparing construction plans, specifications, calculations, and engineering reports.
- Knowledge of permitting and approval processes with municipalities and regulatory agencies.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and applicable codes and standards.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with architects, contractors, developers, consultants, and public agencies.
