Job summary

City of Ocala seeks an experienced planning professional to lead the planning division, guide zoning and comprehensive plan updates, and ensure regulatory compliance. The role partners with multiple city departments to advance urban development initiatives in Ocala.

The ideal candidate has strong staff supervision, budget oversight, and proven ability to communicate with boards and the public while applying Florida planning statutes and regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, or public administration.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years related experience and/or training.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction in planning division operations including zoning, comp plans, variances, amendments, and permits.
• Coordinate with City Departments to update land development regulations.
• Assist Planning Director with updating the comprehensive plan.
• Apply Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code requirements.
• Provide staff support to planning boards and commissions.
• Lead various planning projects and studies.
• Provide direct customer service to professionals and the public.
• Assist in annual budget preparation and department goals.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
