Job summary

The City of Ocala is seeking a professional planning position within the Planning Department. The role involves conducting research, performing independent studies, and responding to public inquiries, with supervision by Senior Planners.

You will prepare staff comments for zoning, land use, annexation, and variance cases; review and develop GIS maps, data, and presentations for City Council and boards; and assist with planning regulations and neighborhood studies.

Qualifications

• Requires master’s degree in urban planning with emphasis on GIS
• Courses in related disciplines such as architecture, urban design, demography, economics and GIS are highly recommended

Responsibilities

• Researches and prepares staff comments for zoning, land use, annexation, special exception and variance cases.
• Reviews materials for presentations to City Council and city boards on rezoning requests, land use changes, annexations, and developments.
• Maintains the GIS maps, databases and related software; develops project maps and databases as needed.
• Provides staff support to city boards and develops a GIS Plan to guide implementation of the department’s GIS.
