Job summary

Department of City Planning in New York City seeks a Senior City Map Planner to update and maintain the City Map, review proposed changes, and coordinate across divisions. The role requires consulting with private surveyors, engineers, and other city agencies to ensure robust decision making and documentation for implementation.

Reporting to the Chief of Mapping, the Senior City Map Planner will also guide the transition of City Map records to a modern GIS system and provide technical guidance

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 1 year related experience in city planning or a satisfactory combination of education/experience.
• Graduate education may substitute for experience with preserved bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Review and process applications for changes to the City Map, coordinating review across divisions and agencies.
• Review surveyors’ and engineers’ materials documenting proposed amendments.
• Make technical and policy decisions on behalf of DCP in coordination with TRD leadership.
• Provide technical advice on laying out street systems, parks and related features.
• Field and manage street status and monument data requests.
• Maintain City Map records and drive transition to the new GIS system.
• Coordinate with city agencies, external partners, and constituents.
