Job summary

The Department of City Planning in New York City seeks a City Map Engineer to maintain the City Map, review alterations, and ensure accuracy in streets, parks, and zoning features. This role requires a New York State Professional Engineer’s License and permanent civil service status.

Reporting to the City Map Team Leader, you will sign Alteration Maps, maintain survey monuments, coordinate with city agencies, and help transition legacy maps to a city‑wide GIS system while supporting multiple

Qualifications

  • Four years of full-time civil engineering experience.
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Residency not required for NYC postings.

Responsibilities

  • Review Alteration Maps for accuracy and sign them as a licensed engineer.
  • Maintain survey monuments and elevation benchmarks and data.
  • Review private surveyors' and engineers' proposed amendments to the City Map.
  • Provide technical assistance on street layouts and alteration maps.
  • Field and manage street status and monument data requests.
  • Maintain City Map records and drive transition to a GIS system.
  • Coordinate with city agencies and external partners on City Map tasks.
  • Perform related tasks.
