Job summary

City of Suffolk, Virginia seeks an experienced Civil Engineer III to lead design and construction of complex capital improvement projects. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and at least 6 years in project management for design/construction of engineering projects.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• DEQ Stormwater Plan Reviewer certification preferred; VDOT certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Performs project management for design and construction of complex capital improvement projects.
• Administers contracts and manages design of CIP projects; conducts site inspections as needed.
• Monitors expenditures and financial status; acts as project liaison with other agencies.
• Provides supervision and guidance; may assume leadership roles for plan review coordination.
• Coordinates with developers, contractors, surveyors, and consultants on City policies and standards.
• Oversees bid documents, contract execution, and funding certification.
• Responds to citizen questions and concerns regarding drainage, traffic and utility systems.
• Assists in grant writing and monitors grant fund expenditures.
