Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Laboratory Chemist with a science degree and 4+ years of experience to perform routine and complex chemical analyses, data collection and reporting under supervision, following established procedures safely and efficiently.

The role involves monitoring plant labs and sample testing across water, wastewater, and related systems, maintaining equipment, supporting continuous improvement, and complying with federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in science or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Minimum of four years' related experience including three years as a Chemist I or equivalent experience in a chemical laboratory performing analysis of coal, air, water and other materials.
• Advanced computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Laboratory activities and maintain equipment.
• Initiate requisitions for supplies and equipment.
• Follow unit guidelines with minimal supervision.
• Install, operate, calibrate, and maintain test equipment.
• Perform special analyses and investigations and prepare written reports.
• Collect, document and evaluate data to comply with environmental regulations.
• Ensure compliance with EH&S programs and regulatory requirements.
• Collect, prepare, analyze and ship samples.
• Maintain calibration records for lab instruments and on-line instrumentation.
